DAY TRIP TO WESTMINSTER ABBEY

15th April 2010

The new term got off to an exciting start as we went on a one day trip to sing at Westminster Abbey. As well as being a great experience in its own right, this was an extremely useful preparation for the choir’s tour there in July, when we shall be singing four further services

The music for the service was all Gloucester - themed: responses by our late and much missed friend John Sanders, Sir Herbert Brewer’s Evening Service in E flat and the anthem They that go down to the sea in ships by Herbert Sumsion. The choice of anthem was doubly appropriate as it related to the second lesson, and also the day was the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912.

We may be biased, but we all thought the choir sang brilliantly, and certainly the reaction from the Abbey authorities and staff was most appreciative

We were especially delighted that so many family and friends were able to come on the coach with us (we had a 70 seat coach, almost full), and yet others joined us in London. Thank you to all those who supported us!
