Music, strawberries and cream at Bishopstow

The Friends of Newport Cathedral Choir wish to thank Bishop Dominic for his willingness to allow us to hold this lovely event in the grounds of Bishopstow. The weather was sunny and warm and the event was a pleasing success, raising nearly £600 for FNCC.
Exciting young harpist, Ben Creighton-Griffiths joined us for the afternoon, between concerts in Mexico and Barcelona, and we marvelled at his talent and musicianship. His playing welcomed visitors to Bishopstow and many sat in the lounge and listened intently as Ben played.
As visitors strolled around the grounds and took part in several quizzes such as ‘Guess who the baby is?’, ‘How many chocolate éclairs in the jar?’ and ‘Who will win the World Cup?’ they were entertained by Arco, a string quartet of talented young music students and The Restoration Singers who sang a wide variety of madrigals and songs. These groups were conducted by Jeanette Massocchi, a Vice President of FNCC and a very well-known musician in Gwent, particularly, but also nationally and internationally.
Although we were disappointed with the numbers of visitors who joined us for this occasion, everyone appreciated the beautiful surroundings, the strawberries and cream and the very welcome cups of tea served by members of the FNCC Committee and supporters.
The Committee wishes to pay particular thanks to Ben and to Jeanette Massocchi and her friends for sharing their musical talents with us and to the Bishop for his support and friendly welcome and for sharing with us his computer skills as we set up for the event. The signs were wonderful!!
