NEWPORT CATHEDRAL CHOIR St. Woolos Cathedral |
|
St Woolos Cathedral Choir is a traditional boys' and men's cathedral choir numbering at present 17 choristers, 5 teenage choral scholars (almost all former choristers) and 8 senior gentlemen. In addition there are various supernumerary gentlemen who sing with the choir from time to time. There is also a training choir with a further twelve younger boys. Jeremy Blasby was appointed Assisiant Organist in 2010, and the Organist and Master of the Choristers since January 1979 is Christopher Barton. The choir has made two CDs, tours regularly (most recently to Winchester & Chichester Cathedrals and Romsey Abbey) and is frequently invited to broadcast on both radio and television. In 2003 the choir was honoured to sing in Canterbury Cathedral at the Enthronement of the Most Reverend Dr Rowan Williams (formerly our diocesan bishop) as Archbishop of Canterbury, a service which was televised worldwide. A warm welcome awaits any prospective singers (boys over seven and gentlemen). The Organist and Master of the Choristers (see contacts) will be happy to answer any questions and to give further information. |
